Top 5 Hottest Motorcycle Scenes!

We all love a good motorcycle scene and obviously the mystery of the character sat on top of it. The leather clad, tall (no doubt) handsome man atop any one of the automotive industries' leading dare-devil machines just oozes cool, fierce and sexy.

Here are the Top 5 motorcycles and their characters that will be sure to get your pulse racing on and off the bike.

Not for me to deny anyone Wild Hogs is the action movie that showcases the Harley Davidson well and for those of you who like a more mature character this could be the feel-good film for you. The family genre of this flick follows a group of four middle-aged friends as they embark on a journey to see how it feels to be a 'real biker'. The Harley Davidsons within this feature include the XL1200C Sportster Custom, FXSTS Springer Softail, a standard Black Fatboy and the almighty Screaming Eagle Fatboy which luckily meant that a top priority included motorcycle servicing in Scotland.

The coolest films with a motorcycle in the 1990's were undoubtedly Terminator 1 and 2. Terminator 1 released in 1990 depicted character Sarah Conner being chased on a Honda scooter by the Terminator itself on a Honda 750 and Terminator 2 left audiences breathless as Arnie rode a Harley Davidson Fatboy. For classic chase scenes and the coolest script lines ever including "I need your clothes, boots and your motorcycle", the Terminators' are the one to watch.

Classic indie film The Motorcycles Diaries features a 500cc single cylinder Norton motorcycle, nicknamed 'The Almighty One'. Set against the backdrop of an Argentinian landscape, The Motorcycle Diaries is based on a real journey depicted within diaries that were kept by two friends. The main character Ernesto 'Che' Guevara travelled across South America for more than 500 miles with his friend Alberto Granado before 'Che' became a guerrilla leader.

Arguably one of the best motorcycle movies ever to have hit our screens is the chase scene in the 1963 classic, The Great Escape. Performing his own stunts, jumping over barbed wire and the famous final riding scene saw sexy, cheeky Steve McQueen riding an undercover TT special 650 Triumph, which made over for the film looked like a war-time BMW.

Lastly, is the classic tale of a fighter pilot who plays a character called 'Maverick' in a competitive naval school recruitment facility. Another of the cool riders within this selection, Tom Cruise sets about riding a Kawasaki GPZ750R throughout the film and there are certainly some steamy scenes in this one for the ladies too.

So there you have it, the cream of the motorcycle crop, I wonder if any of them are likely to need motorcycle servicing, Aberdeen seems a little bit too far to go considering that most of them live in America.. maybe I should do a UK only list next time.

Motorcycle Mechanic - Career Training Programs

Small engine vehicles are in their own class and students can learn to work with them by completing specialized training. Perhaps the most popular small engine vehicle is the motorcycle. Vocational schools offer several career training options to teach students to become motorcycle mechanics.

The service needed for a motorcycle is similar to mopeds, choppers, and all-terrain vehicles. The mechanics that go into them fall under small engine vehicles and students have many motorcycle mechanic educational training opportunities to choose from. The hands-on atmosphere requires students to work directly with these vehicles. Students train to work with motorized vehicles by learning to overhaul and improve the engine. Completion of a program can have students completing a six to 12 month certificate program to a two-year associate's degree program. Both options are adequate to become a motorcycle mechanic. Students that complete an associate's degree typically have a wider knowledge base and are more competitive in the hiring process.

Certificate programs are highly focused and courses go over all of the logistics of the field. Motorcycle mechanics learn to be technicians by completing coursework that centers on 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. The complete mechanic process is learned when students complete training that teaches them about safety skills and the tools used inside the industry. Learning how to repair small engine vehicles has students completing a variety of courses. Ignition systems, duel systems, troubleshooting techniques, exhaust emissions, and repair procedures are all typical courses that students can expect inside a certificate program.

Education inside an associate's degree program covers the fundamentals of repair and dives into further education. Students can expect to learn how to work with foreign motorcycles, snowmobiles, and more. The complete process of troubleshooting, repairing, and improving a motorcycle along with other small engine vehicles is explored. Courses that students can expect to take may include:

* Hydraulics
* Frame Welding
* Business Law
* Accounting
* Repair Shop Safety

Topics discussed in courses like this prepare students to not only work in a shop as a technician but also run their own business. The mixture of mechanics and business-oriented courses train students to establish a business. The new types of mechanical systems and electronic capabilities for small engine vehicles are also covered. Students can also find manufacturer-specific programs. Meaning that students can learn to work with one type of motorcycle like Harley-Davidson. Education focuses on training students to do everything from repairing to selling Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Coursework is very similar to a standard associate's degree programs except that all information presented is exclusively for the manufacturer-specific motorcycle.

Becoming a motorcycle mechanic is a process that takes less than two years depending on the program selected. Students can find what they're looking for in an accredited program by researching the options. Full accreditation is awarded by agencies like the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology ( http://www.accsc.org/ ) to quality educational training programs. Work towards entering the field by starting a motorcycle mechanic program from an accredited vocational college.

Tips to Avoid Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents are one of the major causes of ugly scenes on our highways and other roads. They are responsible for deaths, fatal injuries and life long disabilities. A sad to note fact is that such accidents have been on a steady rise as though nothing can be done to tame them. It is surprising how many motorcycle users fall prey to the same mistakes that have been causing accidents day in day out. What every motorcyclist needs to know is that the responsibility of reducing or avoiding motorcycle accidents all together lies with every individual that uses the motorcycle and the others who use the road such as motor vehicle drivers and pedestrians. Before you look at the other person for blame, look at what you can do yourself to stop the menace. Here are a few tips that you can use to avoid this annoying trend.

Be Visible
When you are riding a motorcycle on the roads, make sure that you are well visible especially by the motor vehicle drivers and the pedestrians. This is the best way through which you can reduce motorcycle accidents as each road user will be able to see you clearly. To achieve this, you should make sure that you use bright colors for your clothing when riding on your motorcycle. This is important especially when using the roads at night. You should also use your headlight to enhance your visibility.

Make Your Communications Clear
When changing lanes, taking on a new direction or slowing down to stop, make sure that the other road users read and understand your intentions well. This is where you will need to apply the correct use of your indicators and signals. Keep the correct lane position and make sure your brake light is functioning well.

Do Not Trail Closely
It is a risky behavior to follow other vehicles from a very close range. You never know what to expect from the vehicle ahead of you and you may find yourself in an uncontrollable situation when they brake suddenly. Also make sure that when you are overtaking, you keep a reasonable space between you and the other road user who you are overtaking.

Watch For Roadsigns
These signs usually do a good job in guiding road users. Ignoring them or dismissing the directions indicated on them is one of the most stupid things you can do if you are looking to avoid motorcycle accidents. You should keep within the specified speed limit of the section of the road on which you are riding and be alert for any sudden actions that could lead into a motorcycle accident. You should be always prepared to avert any sudden danger and avoid an accident.

Revise Your Course
Make it a habit of going through your motorcycle riding course more often so that the ideas will always remain fresh in your mind. This way, you will keep on refreshing your knowledge of riding your motorcycle and be able to avoid silly mistakes that can easily lead motorcycle accidents.

Motorcycle Boots For Protection and Fashion

Riding on to a motorcycle would mean having your feet resting on the foot peg for quite some time. This is probably the reason why getting the right pair of motorcycle boots for any rider is very important.

Most people would think that these boots were created with the intention of making them a fashion statement. However, most bikers or motorcycle enthusiasts know that they are there primarily for safety and convenience.

While the motorcycle helmets are created to give protection to the head, the boots on the other hand, are there to protect the feet. Regular boots would not do, as they might not have been produced as a protective gear. If you are a budding motorcyclist, make sure that you get specifically the motorcycle boots because the boot manufacturer designed them in such a way that they will give not only protection to bikers but also comfort.

There are several reasons why it is essential for a biker to use these boots but the most common is to avoid you from being burned from the heat that is coming out from the exhaust pipes of the bike. The durability of these motorcycle boots will help a lot every time your foot touches the ground whenever you are maneuvering the bike to a stop. Regular boots would most likely be damaged easily with the friction.

While these boots are primarily made for practical reasons, top boot manufacturers are creative enough to incorporate fashion into each pair without sacrificing its efficiency. This is the reason why there is a wide variety of motorcycle boots that are offered to consumers. They come in different colors, cuts and designs. The rugged working boots has come a long way and with the help of technology, they have become not only functional but fashionable too.

Today, you will see even the non-bikers grabbing a pair of boots meant for motorcycling. It has also become increasingly popular with women as it has become a fashion statement to some of them. More people are becoming aware of the kind of comfort it offers to the user. Compared with regular boots, boot designers are acutely aware that they need to put more emphasis on the comfort factor as the feet stays at the foot peg for so long during a motorcycle ride.

Motorcycle boots makes riding easier for the riders. Instead of getting sore feet at the end of the day, the right pair of boots will make sure that it will be comfortable during the ride. Some of them even has extended lower heel for easy maneuvering.

Aside from leather, other materials like metal and plastic are also used to make sure that the feet will get the utmost protection from all kinds of outdoor elements and if in case an accident will happen. It is a smart choice for bikers to get a pair of these boots.

Browse over different designs online so you will have an idea on what to get. There is no need to rush to the nearest shoe store as you can enjoy the benefits of online shopping.

Motorcycle Safety Tips

Tips on Riding

• Never ride your motorcycle without your helmet. Make sure it fits securely and has a DOT label, which symbolizes compliance with federal safety standards.
• Take a motorcycle rider-training class.
• Know the limitations of your motorcycle.
• Don't speed.
• Never tailgate other vehicles.
• Use your signals. Learn the hand signals for turning, stopping and slowing down just in case your bike's signals ever malfunction.
• Respect other drivers. Avoid weaving through traffic and driving on the shoulder.
• Be visible. Be visible. Be visible.
• Avoid riding in blind spots and always use your headlights.
• Brake safely. Use both brakes at the same time.

Before You Hit The Road Checklist

• Test your lights, brakes, turn signals and horn.
• Check the oil and fuel levels.
• Check tires for any punctures or slick spots.
• Make sure your mirrors are positioned correctly.
• Make sure your cables are not worn or frayed.
• Lubricate and adjust the chain as recommended by the manufacturer.

What To Wear

• Protective Eyewear. Find a high quality helmet with a face shield, goggles or glasses with plastic/safety lens so you can always see the road clearly.
• Jacket and Pants. Wear safe, durable materials including leather or synthetics that are full length and fit to size. Color is also important. Vibrant colors and reflective materials are more easily seen on the road.
• Gloves. Choose durable, non-slip leather gloves that fit your hands well.
• Shoes. Wear leather boots or durable sneakers that cover your ankles.

Common Motorcycle Accidents

• Other motorists not seeing you. You're smaller than they are, and you're twenty-seven times more likely to die in a collision than they are. So be visible.
• Potholes. You can curse bad roadways all you want, but in the end, it's up to you to avoid obstacles in your way.
• Speeding. Sure, it's fun to rip down the road. But every mile an hour over the speed limit you go increases the odds of an ugly outcome.
• Inexperience. Know the limitations of your bike before you get out there with the big boys. Rush hour is not the time to learn that you don't know what you're doing.
• Over braking. If you lock up your front wheel when braking, you've just sacrificed your ability to steer. Hopefully, that'll be the only thing you sacrifice.
• Running wide on a turn. Obvious, really. The road is the safest place to be. The shoulder is where telephone poles, mailboxes and little white crosses live.

Avoiding a Motorcycle Accident

If you are a motorcyclist, remember this: your vehicle is small. If you drive a standard motor vehicle, remember this: motorcycles are small. Minimal visibility is one of the main things that lead to motorcycle accidents occurring.

The road is filled with drivers who are used to seeing standard-sized vehicles on the road and therefore these drivers are more prone to looking out for vehicles of this size or bigger. This is called immediate association and it can be deadly. When drivers sees a motorcyclist, they may look past him or her and only see the road in front of him or her.

Motorcyclists who are involved in a car accident should seek medical attention immediately. Upon receiving medical attention, he or she should also seek legal attention. A well-established lawyer will be able to help a victim receive compensation for any medical bills or other damages that arose due to the accident.

Here are a few items for motorcyclists to help avoid an accident in the future:

-Give warning: Others drivers must know ahead of time whether you are braking, turning, or are facing an emergency. Drivers have a hard enough time trying to see motorcycles on the road, so make sure to use your lights to send a message.

-Be visible: This can mean anything from using your headlight to wearing bright-colored clothing. Whatever you think may be able to help you stay noticed on the road will help.

-Do not make sudden turns or movements: Motorcyclists should know which traffic decisions they will make ahead of time. His or her motorcycle may come to a "wobble" if he or she brakes or turns suddenly.

-Stay focused: Riding a motorcycle means balancing your bike while balancing road conditions. If you are ride a motorcycle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you may not be responsive enough to avoid an accident.

-Keep your distance from all objects: This should be practiced especially at night. Drivers are more likely to notice motorcycles that have a lane all to themselves or have a distance between themselves and other vehicles.

-Wear proper gear: Remember, you do not have a seat belt. In the event of an accident, you may become airborne and will need the protection of a helmet or other safety gear.

DOT Approved Motorcycle Helmets - Make the Right Choice

For safety reasons, it is essential that you buy the appropriate motorcycle riding gear. The most important piece of gear is a quality motorcycle helmet. When purchasing a new helmet, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. In addition to any stylistic concerns, you must concern yourself with the overall safety of the helmets you are considering. Don't just take the seller's word about the safety features. Is the helmet DOT Approved? Choosing only DOT approved helmets ensures that your helmet has passed certain safety standards implemented by the Department of Transportation.

DOT approved helmets have been certified by the DOT as meeting rigorous safety standards. If you do not choose a DOT helmet, it will not protect your head if you should crash. Most areas also require DOT approved motorcycle helmets if you are riding on the road; you can get in trouble with the law simply on the basis of using a non-DOT helmet. Plus, the bottom line is that non-DOT approved helmets won't go very far in protecting you from injury. This is not a helmet that you should trust with your life.

To identify DOT motorcycle helmets, first look for a DOT sticker, which is usually found at the back of the helmet, towards the bottom. There should also be a DOT label sewn into the helmet lining. Every motorcycle helmet sold in the U.S. must be evaluated by the Department of Transportation, but not all models will gain DOT approval.

How does a helmet become DOT approved? Each helmet model undergoes rigorous testing to ensure that it meets or exceeds safety regulations. These include impact test, drop tests, and other methods to simulate a crash situation. The results of these tests must show that the helmet offers adequate protection, including impact and penetration protection and the ability to remain securely on the rider's head during an accident. All motorcycle helmets sold in the U.S. must have at least a 210 degree field of vision to qualify for DOT approval. By choosing approved helmets, you can be sure that you are getting the best protection possible.

We are a small family owned business offering DOT approved motorcycle helmets and related accessories. Being a small business has it's advantages. Some of which are being able to offer our products at affordable prices without having to sacrifice the quality of the product. We believe that if you aren't happy with a purchase you've made from us, we do not deserve your money, it's as simple as that. Find DOT approved helmets 20% off retail.

Harley Davidson Shovelhead Motorcycle Engines

For those of you that would like to learn a bit more about the Shovelhead Engine, this article will teach you the basics. For starters, the shovelhead engine is a type of V-twin engine that was manufactured by the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company between 1966 and 1985. The design for the shovel head engine was developed based on the design of the Panhead engine. The difference is that the shovelhead engine includes more powerful cylinders and pistons as well as a modified look.

What some of you may not know is that the shovelhead engine received its name from the unique look of the engine's rocker box covers. These covers bear a resemblance to the heads of coal shovels. That is how the name "shovel head" came into existence...

Back in the mid-sixties, the Panhead engine was initially developed to fit Sportster choppers. As time went on, the Panhead lost its attraction and went out of style due to the fact that Harley Davidson began developing bikes that required more horsepower.

Around that same time, the shovel-head engines entered the scene with newly designed top ends that were created to give you more acceleration and power. Unfortunately, many motorcycle experts now say that the weight of the new shovel head engine detracted from the speed and power of certain models in the sixties. In fact, the shovel head engine was originally designed as an engine for an outboard motor (a motor for boats), but it did not function in water or in moist air.

In the 1970's, minor changes were made to the shovel head engines that helped fix some of the problems demonstrated by the weight of the sixties shovel head model. However, most Harley specialists would say that even these revisions did not quite catch the shovelhead "up to speed." This was mainly due to that fact that Harley Davidson had to stick by government regulations that basically said choppers could not have more than a top speed of 90 miles per hour.

Another interesting tidbit of info is that if the engine came with a feature called the FLH Electra-Glide Package, it was identified as a shovel head engine for police bikes. Sometimes this feature is called the Police Option. It definitely made it easier for Police to run cars off the road.

Additionally, The FLH Electra-Glide package also enabled the engine to turn over longer while the machine was in idle. Unfortunately, it made for a heavy bike that was not easy for the average rider to maneuver or brake instantly. It's very hard to find a Harley shovelhead engine with the original FLH Electra-Glide package. It's very rare and is prized by motorcycle and chopper part collectors.
